“To Di World” – an Olympic effort to tackle hunger?

“The challenge is to avoid the fight against malnutrition being a compelling but periodic curiosity (think the Olympic cycling keirin event). The fight will be unglamorous, constant, and difficult – more like the training for the Olympics than the Games themselves.”

As Ian Scoones of the Future Agricultures Consortium has argued in the past, tackling hunger and food insecurity is a crucial part of building long-term resilience against the shocks and stresses that affect the poorest people. This involves recognising people’s right to food, and linking this to social protection; and addressing the long term neglect of agriculture for development.
