Agricultural Development Issues in Kenya

Notes from two recent visits to Kenya by Steve Wiggins of ODI and Colin Poulton of Imperial College, London to look at the current agricultural development situation there

The following potential activities are planned under this study:

  • Looking at success in supply chains - commissioning a first phase report to identify successful chains, giving an initial appraisal and preliminary results with issues for further work.
  • Workshop on agricultural policy - brainstorming sessions with key stakeholders.
  • Livestock policy - commissioning first phase to provide outline and synthesise existing knowledge with issues for further work.
  • Process of reform - first phase, literature review

Rosemary Atieno is currently a senior research fellow in Development Economics at the Institute for Development Studies, University of Nairobi. She holds B.A., M.A.(Economics) from the University of Nairobi, and PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Giessen.
