The Ethiopia National Consultation workshop was the culmination of a series of six regional-level consultation processes carried out by the Future Agricultures Consortium. The aim of these consultations was to:
The workshop was attended by some 100 delegates, representing the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, regional government, farmer stakeholder groups, and farmers themselves.
The National Consultation workshop, held on 9 June in Addis Ababa, was officially opened by the State Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, H.E. Dr. Aberra Deressa.
The day featured keynote presentations on four potential 'pathways' along which development could take shape, and a second presentation on the regional consultation process. After questions and clarifications from the audience (see image gallery), six working groups representing each of the regions surveyed reflected on the presentations and discussions and were asked to present regional policy implications and ideas for moving forward. These are consolidated here.
In concluding the National Consultation workshop, a National Future Agricultures Working Group was established from audience volunteers. This group, facilitiated by the Future Agricultures Ethiopia team, is tasked with taking forward the regional consultation processes and the agenda established during the National Consultation.
